Jesus Cadena
VP, Safety | Building Zone Industries
What do you consider to be one of your most significant achievements and why?
One of my most significant achievements has been helping lead the transition from a reactive safety model to a proactive, risk-based approach that supports company growth. This includes developing stronger systems, improving leadership engagement and embedding lessons learned into how work is planned and executed. What makes this meaningful is that it wasn’t accomplished alone. It required buy-in from executives, project managers, the safety team and field teams. The real achievement isn’t just improved results; it’s building a culture where teams take ownership and understand their role in preventing serious incidents.
What does success look like to you?
Success is building teams and systems that continue to perform well without constant oversight. It’s seeing people grow into leaders, make sound decisions and hold one another accountable. From a business perspective, success means protecting people while enabling sustainable growth. Personally, it means knowing that the results achieved reflect the efforts of the team and that those outcomes were achieved the right way.
What leadership philosophy guides your strategic vision and decision-making?
My leadership philosophy is grounded in clarity, accountability and trust. I believe leaders are responsible for setting clear expectations, providing context and ensuring teams have what they need to succeed. I don’t view leadership as directing work from the top down, but as aligning talented people around a shared purpose. When teams are empowered, informed and supported, they consistently outperform any one individual’s effort.
