Google Fiber expanding to Riverton, Utah

Riverton — On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the Riverton City Council approved a license agreement that sets the foundation for Google Fiber to expand into Riverton. The agreement will allow Google Fiber to install and maintain a fiber-optic network infrastructure in a public right-of-way owned by Riverton City.

“Having heard from numerous residents about the need for more internet options, Riverton City’s elected officials have made broadband connectivity a priority,” said Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs. “We are thrilled that Google Fiber has chosen Riverton as their next city to expand into and look forward to our residents and businesses having another option for high-speed internet.”

Google Fiber plans to begin construction on its network in Riverton in the second half of 2022. It is anticipated that construction practices will include narrow trench excavation, which should help minimize the impact of construction in city streets and other right-of-way property.

“Expanding Google Fiber into Riverton will provide the residents of Riverton with a fast, reliable internet option without data caps or annual contracts,” says Jacob Brace, government and community affairs manager for Google Fiber. “We’re looking forward to serving more of our neighbors in Utah.”

Google Fiber expects to start serving customers in Riverton in late 2022 or early 2023 and plans to build its network to as much of the city as possible.
