SALT LAKE CITY — Newmark Mountain West, the leading full-service commercial real estate brokerage in the Intermountain Region, announces the acquisition of the historic Ford Building, located at 280 S. 400 W. in downtown Salt Lake City. Construction will begin soon on a $40 million renovation project. Upon completion, the building will serve as the corporate headquarters for Newmark Mountain West and its subsidiary, Mountain West Strategic.

This new building will serve as the headquarters of our rapidly expanding regional footprint.”
The Ford Building was originally built in 1924 to function as a regional sales, service, distribution and assembly building for Ford Motor Company. Automobile components arrived by rail and vehicles were assembled locally and sold from the on-site showroom. The building was designed by Albert Kahn, a world-renowned architect.
The Ford Building is his only known work in the Intermountain West. In 2000, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places due to its significance in architecture and industrial development in Utah.
The building is located in the exploding Depot District of west downtown Salt Lake City. Historically a railroad and industrial district, the area has seen rapid growth, both with new developments and renovation/preservation projects. The 90,000-square-foot, two-level Ford Building is a historically accurate representation of the area, being just one example of many warehouse and manufacturing buildings being repurposed into modern buildings. The building also has a large adjacent modern parking structure.
Renovations will transform the Ford Building into a fully amenitized building to serve the more than 320 people that will be officed there. Amenities will include a 250-person lecture hall/amphitheater, full gym, game room, golf simulator, pickleball court, basketball court, patio/barbecue area, media production studio, and locker rooms. The project will also have a large five-story parking structure and several parcels of land.
