SALT LAKE CITY — After 11 years building a pipeline of women leaders in Utah, the Women’s Leadership Institute of Utah officially relaunched as Sego Leadership, a name that more directly reflects the organization’s work and its belief that Utah’s future depends on women in leadership.

The launch was announced at a press conference and cohort graduation ceremony, marking both a milestone for current participants and the beginning of a new public chapter for the organization.

“We chose a name with a story, not just a sound. The sego lily earned its place in Utah by thriving in hard ground and sustaining the people around it. That’s exactly what the women we serve do, and it’s what we do for them. We’re 11 years in, and we feel like this name honors our history while inspiring our future direction.”

Melanie Jones, CEO, Sego Leadership

Who Sego Leadership Serves

Sego Leadership serves women at every stage of their careers through four signature programs:

  • Sego Next for women re-entering the workforce or seeking roles that match their full potential
  • Sego Rising for women in the early stages of their careers building foundational leadership skills
  • Sego Leading for mid-to-senior professionals ready to sharpen their leadership skills
  • Sego Suite for women at or approaching the C-suite

To date, the organization has served over 1,400 women across more than 100 companies and in 11 Utah counties, from Cache County to Washington County.

An Action Plan for Employers

Sego Leadership also works directly with Utah employers through Sego Certified, an employer impact program designed to help companies build internal pathways for women’s advancement and measure progress over time.

“I’ve supported Sego Leadership for years, long enough to know it doesn’t do things for show. Women here are ready to lead, in numbers Utah businesses can’t afford to overlook. What Sego Certified adds is the other half of the equation – a real pathway for employers to move those women into the rooms where decisions get made, and measurable progress. I’ve seen what this team offers Utah businesses ready to take the next step. Companies should take advantage of this opportunity to grow.”

Jonathan Hafen, Co-Chair of the Board, Sego Leadership

Rooted in Utah

The sego lily is Utah’s state flower, and its history runs deep in the state. During periods of scarcity, its bulb sustained early pioneer communities who had been shown, by the people already living on this land, how to find it. In 1892, Utah women chose it as the emblem to represent the territory. More than a century later, it names the organization built on that same belief: that Utah is sustained when its women are equipped to lead.
