SANDY, Utah — WCF Insurance1 announced it has signed an agreement to purchase Work First Casualty Company, a specialty insurer providing workers’ compensation exclusively to the temporary staffing industry. The transaction is anticipated to close on about December 1, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 2005, Work First is licensed in 50 states and holds an A (Excellent) Financial Strength Rating from AM Best. The company is known for a high-touch model, data-driven underwriting, dedicated claims oversight, and staffing-specific loss prevention, that helps staffing companies build safer workplaces and stronger businesses.
“Work First has spent two decades becoming the best in the country at protecting temporary staffing companies and their workers,” said Matt Lyon, CEO and President of WCF Insurance. “Workers’ compensation has been WCF’s foundation since 1917. Bringing these two teams together deepens that strength, and we intend to invest in what makes WorkFirst exceptional, not change it.”
Work First will continue to operate under its own brand, with President Jamie Madden and the company’s full leadership team remaining in place. Brokers and policyholders will see no changes to their coverage, service teams, or points of contact. The companies will operate in parallel as they work together on a phased integration plan.
“We were selective about our partner, and WCF stood apart,” said Jamie Madden, President of Work First Casualty Company. “They understand specialty business, they share our values, and they bring the financial strength of an A-rated national carrier.
For our brokers and insureds, this means the same Work First experience, with even more behind it.”
The acquisition reflects WCF’s strategy of disciplined growth in its core line of business as it builds on more than a century of financial strength on behalf of its policyholders.
Sherman & Company served as financial advisor to WCF and Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, A Stifel Company, served as financial advisor to Work First Casualty Company on the transaction.
