SALT LAKE CITY — After proudly serving generations of guests in downtown Salt Lake City, Market Street Grill has announced that it will close its original Downtown location.
For decades, the Downtown Market Street Grill has been more than a restaurant. It has been a gathering place where families celebrated milestones, coworkers shared lunches, visitors experienced Utah hospitality, and lifelong memories were created. As the original Market Street Grill location, it helped establish one of Salt Lake City’s most recognized and enduring restaurant brands.
“Closing our Downtown location is one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make,” said Edmond Heelan, Chief Executive Officer of Mountain West Brands. “This restaurant has been an important part of Salt Lake City’s dining scene for decades. We are deeply grateful to the guests, team members, and community partners who have supported us throughout the years.”
While the restaurant’s legacy remains strong, the economic realities of operating in downtown Salt Lake City have become increasingly challenging. Reduced office occupancy, changing consumer patterns, and lower levels of foot traffic have created headwinds that have made it difficult for the location to operate sustainably.
“This decision reflects the changing dynamics of downtown and is not a reflection of the incredible people who made this restaurant special,” Heelan added. “We are proud of everything this location has meant to the city and our company.”
The company extends its heartfelt appreciation to the thousands of team members who have worked at the Downtown restaurant over the years and to the loyal guests who made Market Street Grill a Salt Lake City institution.
Market Street Grill’s commitment to serving the community remains strong. The company’s locations in Cottonwood and South Jordan will continue operating and serving guests with the fresh seafood, Oyster Bar favorites, and exceptional hospitality that have defined the brand for generations.
In the coming weeks, guests are encouraged to visit the Downtown location, share memories, and celebrate the restaurant’s remarkable place in Salt Lake City’s history. The restaurant’s final service will be Tuesday June 30th.
