What accomplishments are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of building a second career where I translate high-stakes engineering leadership experience into tools that help others thrive. After leading complex technical teams as a rocket scientist, I recognized that many individuals struggle not with capability, but with confidence and communication.

Today, I’ve had the opportunity to impact thousands of professionals across six continents through keynotes, training programs and my bestselling book “Squashing the Imposter Syndrome,” helping individuals and organizations strengthen confidence, improve communication and increase leadership effectiveness.

Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that significantly shaped your path?

Early in my career as a rocket scientist, I remember sitting in meetings wondering if I would be “found out” or whether I truly belonged at the table, despite having the qualifications and experience to be there.

It wasn’t until I started intentionally comparing my actual experience and results to what was truly required — rather than to my internal feelings — that the doubt began to lose its grip.

Learning to navigate and overcome that internal doubt not only changed my own trajectory, but it helped me recognize how common this experience is across industries and roles. That realization became the foundation for my book and the work I do today.

What key advice would you offer to other aspiring leaders?

The most important advice I can offer is this: Confidence is a skill you build, not a feeling you wait for. And like any skill, it requires the right tools and consistent practice.

One of the most powerful shifts I see in leaders is when they stop measuring themselves against an impossible internal standard and start comparing their actual experience and results to what is truly required. That shift alone can change everything.

Invest in your confidence the same way you invest in your technical skills. It is not soft. It is the skill that makes every other skill visible.
