Alex Vandiver
Civil Litigator | Parsons Behle & Latimer
What unique strengths do you bring to your professional and other roles?
I think one of my core strengths is the ability to combine leadership with execution. When I take on responsibility — whether in my legal work or in leadership roles — I’m very focused on following through and delivering results, not just setting direction.
I also bring a strong sense of purpose to what I do. My involvement in pro bono work and professional organizations reflects that I’m motivated by work that has a real impact, not just checking boxes. That mindset helps me stay engaged and contribute meaningfully, even in demanding environments.
Finally, I’d say I’m someone who learns quickly and is comfortable stepping into new or complex situations. I’m used to getting up to speed fast, identifying what needs to be done and taking initiative to move things forward. Overall, I try to be someone that teams can rely on — both to think strategically and to execute consistently.
Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that significantly shaped your path?
A pivotal moment in my career was my involvement in pro bono legal work during law school, particularly when I helped manage and run legal clinics for low-income individuals. Up to that point, most of my experience had been academic or more traditional legal training, but that role put me directly in front of people who needed immediate, practical help.
I remember working with individuals who were navigating complex legal issues without resources, and it really underscored the tangible impact legal work can have on someone’s life. It shifted my perspective from thinking about law as purely analytical to seeing it as a tool for solving real human problems.
That experience shaped my path in two key ways: First, it reinforced my interest in litigation and hands-on legal work, and second, it instilled a long-term commitment to pro bono service. It’s something I’ve continued to prioritize alongside my professional practice, and it’s influenced the kind of roles and leadership opportunities I’ve pursued since.
What’s your next big goal or project in your professional journey?
My next big goal is to continue growing as both a litigator and a leader. I’m particularly focused on deepening my ability to manage cases strategically from start to finish — owning not just the legal analysis, but the overall direction, client communication and outcomes.
At the same time, I want to keep building in leadership roles where I can contribute to the profession more broadly, such as with the ABA and NCBP. My involvement in bar organizations and pro bono work is something I plan to continue growing, especially in ways that create more access to legal services and mentorship opportunities for younger attorneys.
Ultimately, my goal is to be in a position where I’m trusted not only for strong legal work, but also for leadership — someone who can guide teams, develop others and take ownership of meaningful, high-impact work.
