Katie Macc
CEO | Sorenson Impact Institute, David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah
Katie Macc leads the Sorenson Impact Institute at the University of Utah, connecting capital with social and environmental solutions worldwide. With physics and economics degrees from the University of Virginia, her career in impact investing was shaped by three formative years in microfinance in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which provided “more than an MBA’s worth of education” in seeing how capital catalyzes ground-level change.
“I am most proud of the journey I’ve taken to reach where I am today,” she reflects. “Whether in Congo running a microfinance bank; co-founding a fintech company working in emerging markets; or directing grants and impact investments across Africa, India and Southeast Asia, each experience has expanded my dedication to creating meaningful change.”
As an entrepreneur, she co-founded Juntos Global, serving 5 million newly banked customers across three continents, and led grantmaking at Dovetail Impact Foundation. Through her work in the fast-growing and innovative field of impact investing, Katie is able to stay grounded in those entrepreneurial roots — supporting, investing and working alongside a global entrepreneurial community.
