Utah Legislative Redistricting Committee launches official website

Salt Lake City — The official nonpartisan Legislative redistricting website – redistricting.utah.gov – is now live. The website will contain the most up-to-date redistricting information and will provide details on how Utahns can participate in the process.

“The redistricting website is a great resource for Utahns to better understand the importance of redistricting and learn how to engage in the process,” says Sen. Scott Sandall, co-chair of the Legislative Redistricting Committee. “We are excited to hear from Utahns across the state and encourage all to visit the website.”

Every ten years, the Constitution requires the Legislature to redraw new district boundaries based on the most recent population data from the US Census Bureau. This data determines the ideal size of Utah’s Congressional, State Senate, State House of Representatives and State Board of Education districts.

“Today marks an important early step in Utah’s redistricting process. As we launch the website, we are hopeful the public will use it as a resource to understand the process, join the committee as we travel the state, and give input and feedback to the committee to help us make the best decisions for our state,” says Rep. Paul Ray, co-chair of the Legislative Redistricting Committee.

Data from the Census Bureau was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. The Legislative Redistricting Committee expects to receive the data from the Census Bureau by early September. Once the data is available, the Legislative Redistricting Committee will hold town halls across the state to gather input.

The website will be updated with new data and information as it becomes available. The Utah Legislative Redistricting Committee will also share updates on Facebook (Utah Legislative Redistricting Committee) and Twitter (@RedistrictUtah).
