PROVO, Utah — Flash Order launched the Food Truck Operating System (FOS), the first operating system purpose-built for food trucks — built to run on top of Square, the most widely used payment platform among food trucks. The launch is anchored by the debut of event-based management, now live, which lets operators build an event and its entire ordering setup in minutes.

Every restaurant point-of-sale system — Square, Toast, and the rest — was designed for a fixed-location merchant with a fixed menu and a predictable daily workflow. Food trucks operate on none of those assumptions. For a food truck, the event is the business unit: menus, pricing, and preorders all change from one event to the next. Flash Order is the first system built around that reality.

Rather than replace the payment infrastructure operators rely on, Flash Order adds the operational layer on top of Square: event-based management, flexible menus and per-event pricing, preorders with scheduled pickup, kiosk and QR ordering, and a unified kitchen display — all coordinated through a single system. Square continues to process payments; Flash Order runs everything else.

EVENT-BASED MANAGEMENT, NOW LIVE

With the new event tools, an operator can create an event, assign it a custom menu, set date, time, and location, and apply per-event pricing — including automatic rounding to clean price points — without touching their underlying catalog. Orders from every channel flow into one kitchen display, so a festival, a neighborhood stop, and a catering booking can each run on their own terms.

“Food trucks have been handed tools built for restaurants for years, and asked to make them work. Event-based management flips that — for the first time, the software starts from how a truck actually operates: one event at a time. We built it on top of Square because operators shouldn’t have to rip out what already works to get there.” — Weston Hafen, Co-Founder, Flash Order

Flash Order is not new to the Square ecosystem. Founded in 2018 by Weston Hafen and Jon Lund, the company spent seven years building self-ordering products for the food service industry — becoming Square’s first integrated kiosk, kitchen display, and drive-thru partner along the way. The Food Truck Operating System brings that toolkit together into a category built specifically for mobile operators.

PROVEN WITH OPERATORS

Food trucks already running on Flash Order’s tools report meaningful operational gains — faster service, leaner staffing, and pricing flexibility that protects their margins.

“We sell a premium pizza for $14, we sell out every shift, and we do it with two people. Flash Order made that possible.” — Gary Ebert, Owner, Solari Pizzeria Napoletana (Boise, Idaho)

The Food Truck Operating System, including event-based management, is available now. Food truck operators can get started at flashordr.com. Flash Order is free for operators — no monthly or device fees.
