SALT LAKE CITY — Sundt Construction, in partnership with its employee-owned charitable arm, the Sundt Construction Foundation, has completed the demolition of four long-vacant buildings on The Salvation Army’s property located at the corner of 400 South and 900 West in Salt Lake City.

The buildings, which had stood unused for several decades, were deemed outdated and unsafe. Through this collaborative effort, Sundt provided demolition services at no cost to The Salvation Army, helping eliminate a longstanding safety concern for the organization and the surrounding community.

The demolition process included securing the site, safely demolishing the structures, removing debris and backfilling the site using coordinated heavy equipment and transportation support. The property will remain vacant until plans for a future, appropriate replacement are determined.

“This demolition project is nothing short of a miracle,” said Major Keith Bottjen, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army Salt Lake Corps. “As a nonprofit serving the community, the funds simply were not available to complete this work. We are deeply grateful to Sundt Construction and their affiliates for taking on this project and demolishing the buildings at no cost to our corps.”

Additional partners who helped coordinate and donate their time and materials to the project include: My Hometown, an affiliate of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which assisted with coordination efforts involving Salt Lake City and other construction partners; Wheeler Machinery, which provided a excavator; Centennial Trucking, which supplied trucks to haul away demolition materials and backfill; Ferrari Fence Co, which provided site fencing; and Lakeview Rock Products, which provided the backfill materials.

“This project reflects Sundt Construction’s ongoing commitment to community service and strategic partnerships that strengthen neighborhoods and support nonprofit organizations,” said Michael Marsh, Sundt Project Engineer.
