SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) announced a record enrollment of 31,473 students for the Fall 2025 semester, marking a nearly 15% increase from the previous year and the highest enrollment since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
This surge reflects consistent growth since Fall 2023 across all student categories, including concurrent enrollment, new and returning students, and participants in Salt Lake Technical College (SLTech), which provides direct pathways to workforce opportunities.
“I’m proud to see our enrollment numbers rise so significantly this fall—marking our highest peak since the pandemic,” said SLCC President Greg Peterson. “This growth in new and returning students reflects the College’s continued commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive. Whether they’re here to transfer to a four-year university, earn a certificate, or enter the workforce, SLCC is an excellent launchpad setting our students up for future success.”
The most significant increase was observed in concurrent enrollment among high school students, which rose nearly 30% from Fall 2024, reaching 10,098 students. New student enrollment grew 13% to 6,634, while continuing enrollment increased about13% to 11,077, reflecting the College’s concerted focus on retaining and supporting students through completion.
Approximately 70% of SLCC students work while attending the College, and most attend part-time. Nearly half are the first in their families to pursue higher education. SLCC caters to their unique needs by offering affordable tuition, flexible class schedules, and comprehensive support services. Examples of this support include scholarships, academic advising, emergency funds, food pantries, mental health counseling, financial budgeting assistance, and maintaining small class sizes.
As Utah’s largest two-year college, more than 70% of SLCC’s students go on to pursue four-year degrees at Utah’s major universities. Completion at a community college looks different for different students; some come to complete a few classes then transfer, others come to earn an associate’s degree, and others are pursuing certificates for career opportunities.
SLCC is a major contributor to filling Salt Lake County’s workforce needs. A recent Utah System of Higher Education news release highlighted record-breaking completions this academic year among its institutions, emphasizing significant growth in degrees and certificates that align with Utah’s workforce demands, with SLCC playing a pivotal role.
