SALT LAKE CITY — Newport National Corporation and Sentry Financial Corporation, a Utah-based company, announce the completion of their multi-million-dollar renovation of the historic Clift Building at 10 W. Broadway.
The Clift Building is a 106,000 square foot office building completed in 1919 by Virtue Clift, a wise businesswoman and the wife of mining and real estate magnate Francis Clift. The building was home to long-time businesses like Schubach Optical, Western Union Telegraph, and the Kinema Theater. The Clift Building was owned in the 1970’s by notable Utah families like the Simmons, Wagner, Callister, Hamilton, Ashton and Harlin families.
Scott Brusseau, President of Newport National Corporation, says, “We hope the newly renovated Clift Building sends a message that Downtown Salt Lake City is alive and well.” Jonathan Ruga, CEO of Sentry Financial, says, “As a local Utah family-owned business that has officed on Main Street for over 30 years, we are proud to bring back to life one of Salt Lake City’s finest historic buildings.”
“This renovation shows what is possible when we honor our history while investing in our future,” said Council Member Eva Lopez Chavez. “At a time when we’ve lost some beloved historic spaces downtown, the Clift Building stands as a reminder that our city is resilient, thriving and worth investing in.”
The renovations to the Clift Building include:
- New art deco lobby with original 1920’s furnishings.
- New fitness studio
- Renovated club room, the “Clift Club” including an expanded rooftop deck.
- Newly created cozy tenth floor lounge, the “Nest”, with expansive views of the city
- Historic building awning.
The Clift Building’s new art deco renovations will remind you of the Roaring Twenties when the Clift Building was in its heyday!
The owners intend to provide further renovations to the façade, interior, and the former theater (with its main entrance off of Main Street).
