Los Angeles—With the return to its Utah roots just days away, Nitrocross – the disruptive motorsport created by Travis Pastrana and Nitro Circus – released an animated map offering a closer look at the reimagined Utah Motorsports Campus track. The game-changing course that put the racing world on notice in its 2018 debut is back. But now, infused with an investment of over one million dollars, Nitrocross has raised the bar once again with a host of new features and updates.
See the animated track map here.
Map of Nitrocross Track at Utah Motorsports Campus
Utah Motorsports Campus already featured the biggest gap jump in the series, requiring drivers to fly more than 130-feet, with another racing line beneath them takes the challenge even further into the red. Frasier McConnell (JAM) – winner of 2023-24’s Group E first round – said, “Utah for me is Nitrocross. That gap jump could not be more iconic. I still have it as my phone screen saver!”
For 2023, Nitrocross is pushing the limits even further: the updated 1.14-mile-long course now includes a new tabletop jump just prior to that cross-over takeoff, with a second, even bigger, tabletop added after Turn Five.
The track will now also feature three steeply banked Talladega turns, one of which (at Turn Seven) revisits Nitrocross’ original 2018 design while another (at Turn 11) is brand new.
The course has also received a substantial amount of pavement, with 65% of the track now resurfaced with tarmac. In addition to enhancing visibility for drivers, paved sections such as the long front straightaway will create more passing opportunities for Group E’s 1,070 HP-equivalent FC1-X EV cars, allowing them to achieve some of their highest top speeds of the season.
The remaining unpaved sections are getting new dirt as well.
Pastrana explained, “Nitrocross is constantly pushing to make the action crazier, the racing better and taking the fan experience up on all levels, year after year. The track at UMC was so much fun to drive, but the dirt on site was tough to work with and the viewing for the fans wasn’t always ideal. This year, we’ve made improvements to all of the above, and we will keep learning and improving from there.”
He added, “The racing was always amazing in Utah and the track has been super fun to drive. The changes we made were in an effort to manage the dust and keep the car damage down while keeping the and fan and driver excitement up.”
“We’ve also changed the layout to put more of the racing in front of the crowd. In years past, the jumps were difficult to see from the some of the stands and the racing wasn’t close enough to the fans. That is all changing this year.”
Utah Homecoming:
Like Nitro Circus before it, which was founded in Salt Lake City by Pastrana in 2003, Nitrocross has deep Utah roots. In 2018, Nitrocross debuted at Utah Motorsports Campus as a one-off, standalone event, followed by another in 2019. Then, following the pandemic, Nitrocross launched its first series at UMC in 2021.
Now, two years after its checkered last flag dropped in the Beehive State, Nitrocross is coming home to Utah Motorsports Campus August 18-19.
Pastrana said, “Nitro Circus and Nitrocross both kicked off in Utah. This is our home, and we are very excited to be back with a game plan to make it even better than ever before.”
With summer still in full effect, the event will feature evening racing under the lights on both days. In addition to beating the heat, night racing will ratchet up the degree of difficulty for drivers, and create even more dramatic visuals for fans. A full event schedule will be announced soon.
Elite Driver Roster:
At Utah Motorsports Campus, Pastrana will go up against a stacked field of world-class drivers in the top Group E class, headlined by the full 2022-23 podium, lead by reigning 2022-23 champion Robin Larsson (SWE) runner-up: Andreas Bakkerud (NOR) and third-place finisher McConnell. Joining them are Oliver and Kevin Eriksson (SWE), Benito Guerra (MEX) and Conner Martell (USA), with more competitors to be announced.
Electrifying Performance:
Group E drivers will strap into the all-electric FC1-X, a revolutionary monster capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 1.4 seconds – faster off the line than an F1 car. Top Gear called the FC1-X, “absolutely wild,” adding, “If this is the future of electric motorsport, sign us up.”
Festival of Motorsport:
Thrill-loving racing fans have even more high adrenaline excitement to look forward to. Beyond the electrifying action of Group E, the younger generation of drivers will step up to the big stage in NEXT, Nitrocross’ developmental class. Look out for the return of rough-and-ready Side-By-Sides and Baja Bugs as well, along with the mayhem of Van Prix.
On top of all the four-wheel excitement, the decorated freestyle motocross (FMX) riders of Nitro Circus will showcase their ariel skills as well.
Fan Experience:
With its unique open paddock layout, Nitrocross offers fans an immersive atmosphere where they can get a behind-the-scenes look at their favorite drivers and cars. Attendees can also enjoy an entertainment stage featuring live music from local artists Cardinal Bloom and Folk Hogan, along with an extensive activation space that will also include a gaming zone, a concession area with local food trucks, and an electric RC installation.
Nitrocross also features an autograph session – open to all attendees – that allows fans to meet the world’s leading drivers in person.
Racing enthusiasts can stay at Utah Motorsports overnight to make it a full weekend event: RV camping parking passes are available for purchase.
Club Nitro VIP:
Fans looking for an elevated race experience can enjoy special amenities with Club Nitro VIP. Highlighted by a private trackside viewing location and exclusive Club Nitro area, this new premium package gets fans closer to Nitrocross than ever before.
