Salt Lake City—On Wednesday, July 12th, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., The Home Depot Foundation, in partnership with the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) and HandsOn Greater Phoenix, will upgrade two permanent housing facilities for homeless veterans, individuals with disabilities and the chronically homeless through a large-scale volunteer project.
More than 500 volunteers led by Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, will enhance the buildings’ living spaces through interior painting and installing murals, adding seating areas and common space improvements, and completing kitchen renovations and recreational upgrades, all to ultimately improve residents’ overall quality of life and cultivate an environment of dignity and community.
Over 120 formerly homeless veterans live in HASLC’s Freedom Landing facility and Sunrise Metro facilities. These projects will provide increased access to enhanced support services for residents, as well as foster a sense of belonging and stability in their permanent housing arrangements.
“The project represents a significant investment by The Home Depot Foundation in improving the lives of those in need within the Salt Lake City community.” said Zac Pau’u, Deputy Director of the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City. “By partnering with the Housing Authority, the Foundation demonstrates a shared commitment to addressing the complex challenges faced by homeless veterans, disabled individuals, and the chronically homeless.”
Giving back to veterans is personal to The Home Depot as more than 35,000 of the company’s associates are veterans or military spouses. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $475 million in veteran causes and improved more than 55,000 veteran homes and facilities, ensuring more of our nation’s heroes have a safe, comfortable place to call home that fits their individual needs. The Foundation has pledged to invest half of a billion dollars in veteran causes by 2025.
