Salt Lake City— The Shop has been selected as the host venue for mtnDAO Hacker House, a month-long experience to help those in tech and engineering work in creative and productive ways. The Shop boasts 30,000 square feet of stunning mixed-use coworking space. It is the first carbon-neutral space with a rooftop in downtown Salt Lake City and is known for its unique events and programming, best-in-class hospitality, and incredible local artwork.

Attendees will have round-the-clock access to The Shop’s dynamic coworking space, private offices, desks built out complete with monitors, catered lunch, side trips to explore the Wasatch Mountains, and access to free panel discussions. In addition to education and community-focused panel conversations, mtnDAO has organized weekly office hours and social events that highlight the best of what Utah and Salt Lake City has to offer. More than $240,000 in funds were raised to support the 100 hacker house participants from around the nation as they innovate and network. Hacker House and similar innovation hubs provide immeasurable benefits to Salt Lake City by fostering key partnerships, promoting intensive collaboration, facilitating recruiting opportunities, and showcasing Utah’s business-friendly environment.

Edgar Pavlovsky, mtnDAO Hacker House Organizer, says, “The Shop workspace put a lot of thought into coworking space design and it’s the best coworking spot I’ve ever worked at. A constant struggle is designing a hackerspace that is actually easy to work in, issues range from lack of equipment, overloaded electrical circuits, or spotty internet. But this year is different. We’re starting with a building that has been designed from the ground up for coworking. It’s one of the many reasons I keep coming back to Salt Lake City. The Shop is excited to test their infrastructure with mtnDAO, they were built for this.”

Anne Olsen, Community Manager for The Shop, says,  “The Shop Workspace is thrilled to serve as a venue to mtnDAO and help promote thought leadership in this new frontier right in Salt Lake City. Placemaking is integral to the creative process and our facilities allow for infinite inspiration and collaboration. We are so excited to see the community mtnDAO builds from The Shop.”
