Salt Lake City — Salt Lake County is a recipient of the 2021 UD Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership Award for the Mountain Region (MT, ID, WY, NV, UT, CO, AZ, and NM). This award is given to organizations that demonstrate exemplary leadership in the creation of sustainable, healthy, equitable, and resilient buildings, cities, and communities. Salt Lake County was the only county to receive the award this year.
Salt Lake County Facilities management director, Rory Payne says, “this award recognizes the incredible partnerships between Facilities and agencies throughout Salt Lake County. I am extremely proud of the team’s dedication to sustainability best practices.”
There are 17 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings in the Facilities Management portfolio, including the downtown and West Jordan District Attorney Buildings, Draper Library, Draper Recreation Center, Herriman Library, and Kearns Library. All new Salt Lake County buildings must achieve a minimum of LEED gold. Green Buildings deliver value through efficient operations, protecting valuable natural resources, and providing safe, beautiful places for employees and constituents to work and play.
