This year marks 50 years since Rob Moore, Executive Chairman of Big-D Companies, first joined the organization. His five-decade career has shaped Big-D’s culture, expanded its national footprint and helped establish the company as one of the leading group of builders in the Western United States.
Moore joined Big-D in 1976, bringing an energy and leadership style that quickly influenced the direction of the company. Over the years, Big-D has grown to 18 offices across nine states, emerging as a nationally recognized builder with a diverse portfolio and a reputation for collaboration, trust and execution. Under Moore’s leadership, Big-D has risen steadily on Engineering News-Record’s Top 100 and Top 400 lists and has received regional recognition including ENR Mountain States Contractor of the Year, as well as multiple Best of State in Commercial Construction honors and repeated Top Workplaces in Utah recognition.

Moore’s influence extends far beyond operational growth. His approach to empowering people has driven a culture where teams are trusted, engaged, and encouraged to lead. His leadership tenure includes serving as CEO from 2018 to 2021, as well as previously holding the roles of President and Chief Operations Officer. During this time, he was recognized as a Utah Business 2020 CEO of the Year, a reflection of his steady leadership and the respect he has earned across the industry. His strategic oversight has contributed to more than 400 project awards, including recognition for transformative efforts like the Salt Lake City International Airport Redevelopment.
A respected voice in the industry, Moore has also served in key community and industry roles for decades. His service includes leadership positions with the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce Water Committee, Economic Development Corporation of Utah and the Associated General Contractors of America at both state and national levels. In 2010, he was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Utah region and later served as a national judge for the program.
