BMO Commercial Bank recently appointed Paul Thomsen as Managing Director and Utah Market Executive. Thomsen will build the bank’s new Middle Market office in Utah, which will provide capital and tailored financial solutions to Utah’s strong business community.
Born and raised in Utah, Thomsen brings more than 20 years of experience in serving the commercial banking needs of the state’s business community. He spent the last 15 years at JPMorgan Chase, most recently as an Executive Director. Thomsen, who is also a Trustee at MountainWest Capital Network, understands the needs of Utah’s diverse middle market businesses, from manufacturing and consumer goods companies to the tech firms that populate Silicon Slopes. Thomsen also believes BMO’s culture and values are the perfect fit to serve the Utah business community’s collaborative spirit.
“Utah is called the Beehive State because of the industry and cooperation of its early settlers, a mindset that lives on because of the tight-knit culture amongst modern companies and founders,” Thomsen said. “It’s a spirit of collaboration – when everyone works together for the greater good of the hive, we’re all going to make some great honey. This culture of mutual support and encouragement is deeply aligned with BMO’s values, where teamwork and partnership thrive.”
As the son of a commercial banker, Thomsen developed his passion for business and finance early on. In his new role, he’s bringing that same drive and enthusiasm to assemble a team that’s laser-focused on helping Utah businesses thrive. “Building a team and a culture is something I’ve always enjoyed being a part of,” Thomsen said. “What excites me most is leading the charge in creating a highly productive team culture and bringing together the key elements that drive success.”
