Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley has named seasoned nurse executive Laura Malaise as its new chief nursing officer (CNO). Malaise assumed her new position in late June.

Malaise’s nursing career spans more than 17 years, and most recently included a stint as the CNO of Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah. While in that role, Malaise led efforts to acquire the HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience award, a 5 star CMS rating, a LeapFrog A score, and a significant increase in RN and CNA retention.

“I am delighted to join the CommonSpirit team. Their focus on humankindness and treating the whole person really resonate with me,’ Malaise said. “I am also excited about all the positive things taking place at West Valley. CommonSpirit has invested more than $5.5 million into our hospital since acquiring it two years ago. Those improvements include a new Cath Lab, new MRI, and the recently dedicated chapel. Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley provides outstanding care. We have earned the “A” designation from the national organization Leap Frog, and were recently designated as a Blue Distinction Center for excellence in hip and knee replacement and spine surgery. I have been so impressed with the staff at the hospital and look forward to serving the residents of West Valley, Taylorsville, Magna, and surrounding areas.”

An Idaho native, Malaise graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Northwest Nazarene University, and a master’s degree in Nursing Leadership from Western Governors University.

“We are fortunate to have been able to recruit such a capable, talented nursing leader as Laura,” said Christine McSweeney, hospital president. She is already engaged with our team members and having a positive impact on the way we deliver care here.”

As CNO, Malaise is responsible for all clinical care operations in the hospital.
