The challenge

The team at Jacobsen Construction, a well-respected construction company with a unique claim to fame of being fully employee-owned, was poised to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. They knew this was an opportunity to re-examine their branding, reinforce their company culture, fine-tune their strategy and build a new headquarters that truly spoke to who they are.

The results

As the team at STRKTR got to work updating Jacobsen Construction’s branding and outlining the company’s strategy, opportunities to tell its brand story started taking shape spatially. STRKTR worked closely with the Jacobsen Construction team to bring the credo “Built for Life” into being.

This credo informed every element, starting with the nine-foot metal entryway logo sculpture inspired by the layers in the Jacobsen Construction process and the layers of structure that make our cities. It informed every detail down to the wallpaper design and the interior art installations, crafting reclaimed construction scraps into stories.

Photos of employees’ hands bear witness to the generations of work that built the company. The words of past leaders are inscribed on a bench inspired by Norwegian heritage, paying tribute to the founders’ legacy and setting the tone for those yet to come. The full integrity of the brand now lives in the building itself.
