Looking back, is there anything you wish you had known when you first became a CEO?

Reflecting on my journey as a CEO, there are two aspects I wish I had better understood or given more consideration to during the early stages of leading a growing company. Firstly, I underestimated the intricacies of constructing effective processes and systems for scalable operations. Despite recognizing the importance of robust procedures, implementing them during a phase of expansion proved more challenging and resource-intensive than anticipated. Secondly, I wish I’d understood the pivotal significance of timing in transitioning from being deeply involved in day-to-day operations to entrusting the team to take the reins. Shifting your role to focus on training and guiding senior leadership is a critical aspect of steering any company’s trajectory as a CEO, and I wish I’d recognized that sooner.

If you weren’t a CEO, what would you do?

I have loved sports all of my life and still continue to play in community leagues. I always wanted to be a professional football player, so if I could have chosen my profession (with all the necessary physique), I would have been a tight end for the Miami Dolphins and then turned to coaching football at some collegiate or professional level.
