Beyond the Board Room
From aerialists hanging from the rafters to fire dancers, Loveland Living Planet Aquarium has seen it all for corporate events. From large company Christmas parties that take over the entire venue, to smaller team training sessions with a view of the shark habitat, the Aquarium is the perfect place to spark your employees’ imaginations.
And that’s important. As Jared Springer, the Aquarium’s director of sales and events, says: “there’s nothing worse than trying to come up with big ideas in a boring conference room. That’s why companies such as Adobe and Extra Space Storage plan events both simple and extravagant to creatively engage with their employees. Whether that’s a team training, team building, board meeting, or holiday event.”
“Once we even had a mechanical bull in here,” Mr. Springer says. Another time, a company set up food tasting stations throughout the Aquarium, with live music performed at each stop. Employees were invited to wander around the exhibits while taking in different sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. Some events even featured dancers, singers, acrobats, or light shows. No matter the event, each one is a unique experience.
Attendees get special privileges, too. Some companies opt to add a visit to the penguins into their meetings. Others enjoy a meet and greet with a parrot, hedgehog, or armadillo. But no matter what kind of event a company wishes to throw, Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and ICON Culinary, the Aquarium’s exclusive catering and event partner, can handle all the details. From event planning, entertainment booking, and venue decorating right down to food and beverage. And the food is absolutely a centerpiece of its own.
Keith Prows is the general manager at ICON Culinary. ICON was founded upon the belief that food should be both sustenance and sustainable. So he and his team grow their own lettuces and herbs in-house using large aeroponic grow towers, which help offset sourcing some greens. These towers produce lettuces with a wide variety of flavors and aromas, some even taste of wasabi.
These peppery greens are supported by a selection of sustainably sourced meats, seafoods, and vegetables. At The Reef Café, located near the Aquarium’s Oceans and Islands Ballrooms, ICON serves rice and noodle bowls, with an array of sauces and proteins. But for corporate events, they pull out all the bells and whistles, serving food plated or buffet-style depending on a company’s desires. No matter what, the food comes with a view. The Aquarium’s ballroom features a 300,000-gallon habitat featuring more than 10 species of sharks and stingrays and an eel that looks straight out of a fairytale.
Whether you have 20 employees or 2,000, the Aquarium can accommodate groups of any size. Best of all, companies don’t have to wait until the Aquarium is closed at night to take advantage. Ballroom and conference room spaces can be booked for breakfast or lunch meetings, any time of day, and any time of year. A/V setups are available, as are presentation equipment, podiums, and anything else a company might need to host offsite meetings and events for their employees. The Aquarium is conveniently located right off I-15 in Draper, with free parking.
