Salt Lake City—Utah Global Diplomacy has announced the hiring of Jeremy Harmon as it’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this newly created position, Jeremy will execute Utah Global Diplomacy’s strategic efforts to promote citizen diplomacy and engage global visitors with Utah leaders from across the state.

Harmon has spent over 20 years in journalism, where for many years, he led teams of visual storytellers. Most recently, he was director of photography and visuals for The Tennessean in Nashville, Tennessee, and USA Today’s multi-state south region. Harmon also led the photography team at The Salt Lake Tribune for more than a decade and at The Daily Herald in Provo, Utah, prior to that. As past president of Associated Press photo managers, Harmon organized and led training opportunities for photo editors in North America.

“Jeremy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Utah Global Diplomacy team and is positioned to help the organization strengthen its impact across Utah and the globe,” said Felecia Maxfield-Barrett, Utah Global Diplomacy president & CEO. “He brings a unique perspective that will bolster our programming and empower Utahns in an increasingly connected, yet conflicted world.”

A Utah native, Harmon brings a unique local perspective that is influenced by thousands of journalistic conversations with humans from all walks of life. In addition to his professional work, Harmon has volunteered extensively with organizations supporting Salt Lake City’s unhoused community.

“I am pleased to join the Utah Global Diplomacy team and contribute my knowledge and experience to an organization that has an incredible, positive impact in Utah,” said Jeremy Harmon. “During my time outside of the state, I watched Utah grow and evolve in significant ways. I’m excited to help extend that growth and impact on a global level by helping everyday Utahns become empathetic citizen diplomats.
