HOUSTON — Freedom CNG, a leading provider and distributor of compressed renewable natural gas (C/RNG) in the U.S., has acquired Colorado-based X3CNG, one of the largest operators of public-access CNG fueling stations in the Rocky Mountain region, as well as Utah-based Lancer Energy, a leader in designing, building, operating and maintaining CNG/RNG fueling stations.
The two acquisitions expand Freedom CNG’s presence and clean energy infrastructure throughout the Western U.S., while advancing its mission to provide sustainable fueling solutions to commercial fleets, municipalities, school districts, and other high-volume users of fuel across power, industrials and other sectors. Freedom CNG owns and operates eight renewable natural gas dispensing stations for transportation and industrial fueling across Texas and Colorado.
X3CNG operates one of the largest networks of CNG fueling stations in Colorado, including flagship locations in Colorado Springs and Greeley, the latter of which is the largest public CNG station in the state.
“Having led X3CNG and now continuing to serve customers as part of the Freedom CNG team, I’m proud to advance our shared goal of sustainable energy,” said James Mora, former President of X3CNG and now General Manager of Freedom CNG’s Rocky Mountain Region. “Our renewable natural gas stations offer fleets and communities an immediate avenue to lower emissions and contribute to the energy transition.”
Lancer Energy specializes in building and maintaining CNG/RNG fueling stations and offers certified fuel system inspections and fleet services. The company also provides solutions that extend to electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen fueling systems, supporting the transition to cleaner energy alternatives.
“It’s been an incredible journey building Lancer Energy alongside an amazing team, and I’m deeply grateful for the relationships we’ve forged with our customers, vendors, and partners over the years,” said Lance Granger, founder of Lancer Energy and now Group Vice President at Freedom CNG. “Joining forces with Freedom CNG marks an exciting new chapter — one that brings incredible leadership, expanded resources, shared values, and a bold vision for a better, cleaner, energy future. I’m confident this partnership will accelerate innovation and amplify the positive impact we can make together.”
“I’m honored to lead the Freedom CNG team at such a pivotal moment in the company’s evolution,” said Nick Kurtenbach, President and CFO of Freedom CNG. “The acquisitions of X3CNG and Lancer Energy represent significant milestones in our mission to deliver clean, renewable natural gas across the western United States. X3CNG’s robust network in Colorado and Lancer’s technical expertise and extended energy solutions provide an incredible platform for us to meet rising demand while collaborating with fleets and communities to advance sustainable energy solutions.”
“My top priority is to build on this momentum by expanding our footprint, strengthening customer relationships, and fostering clean energy innovation,” added Kurtenbach. “We remain committed to serving X3CNG and Lancer’s existing customers with excellence as we work together toward a cleaner, more sustainable future through the benefits of natural gas.”
