Salt Lake City — As we enter the season of giving, North Star Recovery and Wellness, a leader in disrupting the mental health and addiction recovery industries, is launching its first holiday clothing drive. The initiative invites community members to donate new or gently used clothing to support patients in local recovery programs who are working hard to rebuild their lives.

During the holidays, a significant number of people struggle with addiction relapses and mental health crises. According to rehabilitation centers, more than 60% of individuals in recovery experience a relapse during this time. 50.2% of Utah adults reported unmet needs for mental health treatment. A founder, Jay Tobey, is addressing this crisis by taking action in the private sector, aiming to raise $150 million over the next year to reduce barriers to accessing mental health and substance abuse resources in the state. The public launch will be initiated with an impactful statewide clothing drive.

With eight drop-off locations (see below for drop off locations), from Ogden to Provo, North Star encourages individuals to donate items purchased during Black Friday shopping or gently used clothing items. Many individuals entering recovery often have little more than the clothes on their backs, and your support can make a significant difference.

“Your donation can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing the toughest challenges in their recovery journey,” said Jay Tobey, founder of North Star Recovery & Wellness. “As we continue to expand our reach, we are committed to supporting individuals who are not only overcoming addiction and mental health challenges but also preparing to re-enter the workforce. New clothing can provide a sense of dignity and empowerment, helping people feel confident as they take the next step in their recovery.

The clothing drive is part of North Star’s commitment to community engagement. “We’re focused on transforming the behavioral health space by expanding access to essential services for recovery,” Tobey said. “But the work doesn’t stop there. These clothing donations are just one small way we can make life a little bit easier for those in recovery as they start fresh.”

Jay has extensive experience in syndicating investments across various asset classes, including real estate, private equity, and private credit.
