Provo — Bacon, an app that instantly connects employers with pre-qualified, on-demand workers, announced it is now the Official Gig Work App of Real Salt Lake. The Major League Soccer team will provide Bacon users the chance to earn quick cash while working at RSL home games.

“The teamwork between Bacon and Real Salt Lake will help score great jobs for our fantastic workers,” says Hunter Sebresos, Bacon founder and president. “This is a win-win situation for everyone.”

Bacon connects people with hourly jobs with the tap of a button and allows them to work for as short as a single shift. Employers post shifts, pay, and requirements and then choose the person best suited for the job based on reviews from previous supervisors. After the shift is done, employers rate the employee worker and vice versa.

“Real Salt Lake is thrilled to welcome Bacon as a corporate partner. Bacon’s belief in the power of hustle aligns with our beliefs on and off the field,” says John Kimball, president, Real Salt Lake.

Bacon workers will be able to work RSL games as concessions and club attendants and have a chance to win free seats at RSL games in the “Hustle Hot Seat,” RSL swag, and pregame access to the field.

Elite-level Bacon worker, Rashaad Nunnally was the first to win the “Hustle Hot Seat” prize and he enjoyed watching the home game opener at Rio Tinto Stadium last Saturday. “I had a ball getting the VIP treatment from Real Salt Lake and Bacon.”

Individuals can download the Bacon app to get first access to RSL work opportunities as soon as they are available. Check out this video about the new partnership.

Bacon is booming

Bacon will be expanding to more than 50 markets in the next 24 months after raising $3.5 million in a Series A round. The Bacon Worker On-Demand app is now available in 14 markets and the app is increasingly being used by businesses to meet shifting demands and by workers hoping to earn some extra spending money.

Some other indicators of Bacon’s growth include:

  • Worker-activity at Bacon has climbed by 1,300% since the pandemic, including shifts for more than 130,000 gig worker accounts.
  • Bacon has added more than 2,000 business accounts.
  • Company revenues have grown by 270% in 2021.

“Workforce needs are changing rapidly, and Bacon offers employers the ability to find qualified workers to fill temporary needs and even discover someone they want to hire permanently,” added Sebresos.

Investing in Bacon

Ed Baker, former VP of Growth at Uber, is a key investor in the latest funding round and is now an advisor for Bacon. Baker is an angel investor and growth advisor to many well-known startups, including Line, Zwift, Whoop, Crimson Education, GoPeer, and Playbook. He’s also played a significant role in the growth and long-term success of some of the biggest and most recognizable brands in the world, including Uber and Facebook.

“Bacon’s marketplace of on-demand work opportunities is a unique take on gig work and one I’m excited to support,” Baker said. “As demand for flexible work opportunities continues to grow, employers and workers alike are turning to the gig economy for innovative solutions and I’m confident that Bacon can deliver.”

Unemployment numbers are improving, making it difficult for many businesses to find qualified workers. However, some workers say it is still difficult to find a job and 3 out of 4 gig workers report technology is making it easier to find work
