Salt Lake City — The Utah Jazz are joining with FICE Gallery on Saturday, Feb. 12 for a showcase event, featuring the premiere of the first-ever Jazz-produced short film, as part of its Black Experience Month celebration.
The public is invited to the event at the downtown Salt Lake City boutique located at 160 East 200 South.
The debut of the “Sunday Dinner” short film will be part of the 8 p.m. program (doors open at 7 p.m.). Through its team of videographers and designers, the Jazz created a short film showcasing the value of Sunday dinner, the food involved, and the camaraderie that takes place when combining multiple generations at one table.
Written and directed by Jazz creative team member Donavan Edwards, “Sunday Dinner” frames the complicated relationship between a father and recently returned home son to tell a story of empathy and understanding. The short film will be released at large through digital channels on Feb. 13.
As part of Black History Night at FICE Gallery, artist/painter Matthew Sketch will also have a showing. Sketch grew up in Houston where he worked as an industrial designer. Since 2012, he has practiced full-time as an artist in Salt Lake City.
A capsule apparel collection designed by the Jazz will be available for sale. It will also be sold at the Feb. 14 Jazz game on the porch at Vivint Arena with proceeds benefiting local non-profits in Black communities.
A Jazz microsite at www.utahjazz.com/BXM is hosting all the Black Experience Month content.
