Salt Lake City— Nicholas Villaverde, P.E., has joined IBA Consultants (IBA), an internationally renowned firm specializing in curtain-wall consulting, and building envelope inspection and testing, as a Senior Consultant who will open and manage IBA’s new branch office in Salt Lake City, Utah, serving the Mountain West region of the United States.

Villaverde brings more than six years of experience in structural engineering design and building envelope inspections of low-rise and high-rise commercial construction projects. He also has experience managing renovation construction projects from conception to completion, while working for GACE Consulting Engineers and MCR Developers in New York City, overseeing projects such as the Renaissance Newark Hotel Lobby Renovation, 160 Leroy Street and 996 Manhattan Avenue in New York City, and additional projects in Brooklyn, NY in the trending neighborhoods along the East River waterfront.

The new Salt Lake City office will also be the headquarters for IBA’s new Division of Building Enclosure Commissioning. This new service will help developers and contractors who are bidding on federal and other government projects meet the increasing demand for more thorough building enclosure specifications in request for proposal responses. IBA’s process reviews and recommends building envelope components to meet or exceed the owner’s project requirements, including all materials, systems and assemblies intended to provide environmental separation between interior and exterior spaces.

Villaverde earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the College of New Jersey, and a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from Lehigh University. As the supervising engineering consultant in Salt Lake City, Villaverde will oversee all of IBA’s Utah projects, including the Mayflower Mountain Resort Pioche Apartments, the MWR Hotel and Conference Center, and the Resort Skier Services Hotel in Heber City, Utah, as well as the Division of Building Enclosure Commissioning.

“Nicholas Villaverde’s vast experience in structural and building envelope inspections will be a tremendous asset to our growth in the western United States,” said Mark Baker, president of IBA Consultants. “The Salt Lake City metropolitan area has rapidly become a major hub for the location and relocation of national and international corporate and technology centers as well as being a significant tourism destination. Nicholas has the experience in overseeing projects in emerging markets, and will be a great asset to developers, architects and contractors who are building Utah’s future.”
