West Jordan— Amazon is hiring for more than 1,500 new full-time positions ahead of the launch of its upcoming fulfillment center in West Jordan, located at 7148 W. Old Bingham Hwy, West Jordan, UT. The company also recently officially opened a new delivery station in Salt Lake City, part of Amazon’s commitment to provide exceptional service and fast shipping times to customers in Utah. With the launch of these new buildings, Amazon will grow to more than 5,000 full-time employees in Utah.
Employees at the new West Jordan location will play an integral role in customer fulfillment operations –receiving inventory, picking and shipping customer orders, and supporting network logistics.
“We are thrilled to begin hiring for this fulfillment center particularly because we are launching a brand new service for customers here in Utah,” said Ben Anderson, Site Leader for the more than one million square-foot facility. “Associates will pick, pack, and ship large items such as bulk cleaning supplies and paper goods, pet food and supplies, patio furniture, baby strollers, and outdoor sports equipment like kayaks, skis, and fishing gear. This is the first building of this type in Amazon’s Utah operations which means customers will be able to get large items that much faster.”
In addition to Amazon’s minimum $15 wage, employees at the new fulfillment center and delivery station will receive industry-leading benefits starting on day one including comprehensive full health, vision and dental insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent match, and up to 20 weeks paid parental leave. Employees will also have access to Amazon’s innovative CareerChoice program, which pre-pays 95 percent of tuition for courses in high-demand fields like game design, nursing, IT programming and more.
Since the program’s launch four years ago, more than 25,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few. In addition, Amazon has pledged to invest more than $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 US employees for in demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retails stores, and transportation network, or to pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
As the company looks forward to welcoming new employees to these facilities, it is reinforcing its commitment to keeping employees safe at work.
“We are doing everything we can to keep our employees as safe as possible as we prepare for the launch,” said Anderson. “In addition to following social distancing guidelines, employees are temperature screened and provided with masks, which must be worn at all times in the building. We are taking all COVID-19 precautions into consideration.”
From April to June, Amazon invested more than $4 billion on COVID-19 related safety measures across its operations network. This included spending more than $800 million in the first half of this year on safety measures like temperature checks, masks, enhanced cleaning, gloves, and sanitation stations, to name a few.
“Amazon remains committed to the health and safety of our employees, partners, and the customers we serve,” Anderson added.“We are pleased to see Amazon’s continued growth in the State of Utah, creating thousands of new jobs in our communities, which is good news particularly during these unprecedented times,” said Val Hale, Executive Director Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “Whether you’re a recent college graduate or you may recently have lost a job due to COVID-19, Amazon’s new customer fulfillment and delivery facilities are offering jobs with great pay and benefits, and career development opportunities close to home. It is reassuring to see the company’s continued investment in our state’s economy as well as to know it puts the safety of its employees first, and is focused on making sure existing and future employees are protected where they work.”
Amazon also recently celebrated the official “Day One” launch of its second delivery station in the Wasatch Front. Located in West Valley City, the 380,000 square foot facility will serve customers across the Salt Lake City region. “It’s exciting to see the level of energy and enthusiasm among employees as we continue to grow our operations network in Utah, welcoming many new Amazonians to our team,” said Nolan Kiiskila, Station Manager for Amazon’s newest delivery station in Salt Lake City. “We have hired more than 130 full-time employees to help prepare customer orders for delivery and we continue to hire new roles.”To commemorate the grand opening, the new delivery team surprised Utah Food Bank with a donation of 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food delivered in an Amazon Prime delivery van.
“This is one of many donations Amazon is making to local non-profits to support COVID-19 relief efforts in our communities,” Kiiskila said. “We are proud to support organizations like Utah Food Bank and many others and grateful for all that they do to help those in need.”Amazon recently donated over $50,000 in grants in addition to in-kind product donations to non-profits like Utah Food Bank and United Way, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the community.Hiring for Amazon’s West Jordan fulfillment center is taking place now.
