Salt Lake City— Downeast announced today that it has started renovations on its District store located on District Main Drive in South Jordan. The building will undergo substantial updates over the next several months to prepare the space for a new lifestyle shopping experience for customers.
“We’re thrilled to officially announce a new store concept in our District home location,” commented Downeast CEO Rich Israelsen. “These plans have been in the works for several months now, and we can’t wait to share this brand-new experience with the community. It will be unlike anything you’ve seen at Downeast before.”
As part of the renovation, Downeast will incorporate a design center where customers can explore a collection of fabrics, finishes, and rug samples to build a personalized look for their home. Plus, Downeast’s team of interior design consultants will be available to assist customers throughout the process. Based on future feedback, the company plans to integrate a design center in other store locations.
“This is the first time Downeast is offering a design-assisted shopping environment,” said Holly Bogdan, lead retail designer for Downeast. “Our design center will be very straightforward. There will be plenty of room for customers to experiment with different samples, as well as curated vignettes for design inspiration. We really want to help customers visualize our products in their homes so they feel confident with every purchase.”
Downeast will also add a community center with a kitchen, which will be used for local classes, workshops, and other events. Israelsen explained, “Community involvement is a key core value at Downeast. With this remodel, we want to create a welcoming space where people can come together and celebrate local talent. It’s important that they feel at home so they can relax and enjoy themselves.”
To further promote a relaxed environment, Bogdan and her team are constructing a Zen room that will allow customers to unwind while shopping in-store. Bogdan shared, “We understand furnishing a home is a big investment and can sometimes be stressful. Our customers can step into the Zen room whenever they need a break. It’s a breathing space where they can collect their thoughts.”
The building remodel is expected to be completed by September 2020. In the meantime, Downeast moved its District store to a temporary location at 11565 South District Main Drive, Suite 500 in South Jordan. Downeast plans to host a public grand reopening toward the end of September.
