MILLCREEK, UT—The Millcreek Common Skate Loop, at 11,000 square feet of ice, and the largest outdoor skating rink in the state, opens this weekend. To celebrate the grand opening, Millcreek is hosting its first annual Millcreek Magic Ice Show – Polar Lights on December 1, 2 & 3 at Millcreek Common (1354 E Chambers Ave, Millcreek). Parking is available at Millcreek Common. Overflow parking is available at Millcreek City Hall (3330 S 1300 E).

Free tickets to the event sold out in just two days, totaling nearly 6,000 tickets, which greatly exceeded the expectations of the event organizers.

“We were blown away at the response,” says Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini. “This is an outstanding turnout for our city’s first-ever ice show and demonstrates a huge demand in our community for outdoor winter fun,” he says.

The Skate Loop was made possible thanks to a $500,000 Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant. Millcreek Common’s Skate Loop proved immensely popular for roller skating during the summer. This weekend’s festivities kick-off the venue’s grand opening for ice skating.

The theme for this year’s ice show is Polar Lights. “It’s fun to see Millcreek Common’s Skate Loop become a stage for ice skaters and performance artists to celebrate the scientific beauty and wonder of the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis,” said Aimee McConkie, Millcreek Common Executive Director. “Together, the Polar Lights are earth’s most natural and stunning kaleidoscopes of light. This show will dazzle guests with amazing performance artists, ice-skaters, music, lighting, projections, fire, and more.”

The 3-night, 6-show Millcreek Magic Ice Show is designed to give guests an unforgettable show experience. Each night there will be two, 30-minutes ice shows (6:00 PM and 8:00 PM). Guests can arrive early to enjoy food trucks and pre-show entertainment. Guest can also take a spin on the Skate Loop before, between, or after the shows. Ice skating tickets and skate rentals can be obtained online at MillcreekCommon.org.
