FiiZ soda shop in Stansbury Park celebrates its fifth anniversary

Stansbury Park, UT- If the number three is your family’s lucky number, then the number 33 should be double lucky. That has proven true for Laura Timmerman and her husband, Danny, who just celebrated the fifth anniversary of opening their Fiiz Drinks franchise in Stansbury Park, Utah. And, yup, their FiiZ specialty soda shop is store number 33!

“We had a blast at our anniversary celebration; we had specials, coupons, and giveaways. We have come a long way since we first opened, and we had a chance to reflect on the past five years as FiiZ business owners,” said Laura.

The Timmermans were regular West Valley FiiZ store customers when they first considered opening a FiiZ. After a move to Stansbury Park, they noticed a perfect retail location was available for rent.

“We live in a smaller community and saw a space for rent near the grocery store. I contacted the original FiiZ founder, Jason Anderson, about possibly opening a store. He responded positively immediately, and I looked at my husband and said–I guess we are doing this!”

“Jason was very hands-on and involved with us getting our store up and going. We appreciated all the personal time he spent with us, and he walked us through and answered our questions.”

“We are so happy we decided to open a Fiiz and are thrilled to have celebrated our fifth anniversary. Our bedroom community has grown a lot in the past five years and continues to grow, especially after COVID-19. The 1,500-square-foot shop is located at 6777 North Highway 36 in Stansbury Park, UT 84074. “We have a drive-through and a walk-up to place orders and a lobby where people can meet and hang out,” she said.

The shop has become a top ten performing store. “We have loved getting to know so many people in our community. We know their names and regular orders and love connecting with them,” said Laura. “This has been a tremendous growing experience for me; I have learned so much about myself, my capabilities, and the impact I can have. I have learned about the ins and outs of running a business, paying the bills and insurance, and managing the staff. I am not the same owner/manager I was the first year, and I will continue to learn and grow.

From the beginning, Laura started documenting policies and procedures for better store operations and training her employees. Then, she started sharing her ideas with other franchise owners. “As I would learn new things or figure out how to do something better, I just wanted to share my ideas to help others be successful.

“We received so much support from the founders when we started, and we knew how important that was for our success,” said Laura. “I am happy to share with others what I have learned.”

Laura has a sweet spot in her heart for helping people with different abilities succeed. “At my shop, my employees know that they need to ‘understand the assignment,’ which includes supporting and helping team members with different abilities and social skills. One of the reasons why we wanted to own and operate a Fiiz is that we wanted to show our son, who is on the spectrum, that anything is possible. We wanted to show him that with hard work, he can be successful. We wanted to create an environment where people who may be a bit “quirky” can grow, learn, and achieve what they want. Over the past five years, we have hired about a dozen team members with different abilities.

Besides the best-selling drinks, the “Chandler Bing” (Mountain Dew, coconut, strawberry, and pineapple) and “Berry Bad Doctor” (Dr. Pepper, raspberry puree, vanilla, coconut, and cream), Laura and her team have also created a couple of “original” drinks that are unique to the shop. The “Stansbury Stallion” (Dr. Pepper, raspberry syrup, and cream) is a popular drink named after the local High school and its mascot. “The Bury” (short for Stansbury) is made with Mountain Dew, strawberry and mango syrups.

“I think my favorite thing about running a FiiZ business is to be behind the counter mixing drinks and meeting our customers,” said Laura. FiiZ is a creative, fun brand committed to providing a unique and refreshing drink and customer experience. FiiZ was born in Bountiful, Utah, in 2014 when the Morgan and Anderson families, the original mixologists, came together over a love of creating specialty sodas and bringing a modernized 1950’s soda shop hangout to their local community. The concept took off more than they could have imagined, so they began to franchise FiiZ shortly after. FiiZ offers hundreds of signature menu items, over 10,000 drink combinations, snacks, sweet treats, and non-carbonated drinks such as flavored water and smoothies.

With over 65 locations in 10 states, FiiZ is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing specialty drink franchise, with plans to open 400 locations by 2027. To learn more about franchise opportunities, visit https://fiizdrinks.com/franchise/.
