Salt Lake City — Extra Space Storage employees from across the United States joined together to participate in a Virtual Food Drive and raised over $50,000 in two weeks, with the company matching employee donations. The food drive was in partnership with Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Feeding America has a food bank in almost every market there is an Extra Space Storage, including the Utah Food Bank here in Salt Lake City.

“We are grateful to our generous employees for making this donation possible,” says Jeff Norman, Extra Space Storage SVP and Chair of the company’s sustainability committee.  “No one should go without a meal, which is why we created this fundraiser to give back to the local communities in our 100+ markets across the country. It’s another way for us to fulfill our mission statement of helping people to a better tomorrow.”

In past years, the Extra Space team working in the corporate office in Salt Lake City partnered with the Utah Food Bank to hold a traditional food drive – collecting canned goods for the food bank. In 2020, due to Covid changes, the headquarters team hosted their first virtual food drive and raised over $22,000 for the Utah Food Bank. With last year’s success, Extra Space decided to expand the food drive nationwide to give back to more of the communities and include employees from all 41 states the company operates in.

“Feeding America is grateful to Extra Space Storage and its generous employees for their commitment to fighting hunger,” says Teresa Gruber, Director Employee Engagement, on the Corporate Partnership team at Feeding America. “This donation will help provide at least 500,000 meals to our neighbors in need.”

Marsha Mooney, an Extra Space Storage store manager in Charleston, South Carolina says, “It’s always wonderful to see companies working to better the world we live in and give a helping hand to those in need. It’s just one more reason why I love being part of the team here at Extra Space Storage.”

Esperanza Rosario, an Extra Space Storage assistant manager in Edison, New Jersey says, “I am proud to be a part of a company that cares about giving back to our communities.”
