Big-D Construction COO Troy S. Thompson elected as Vice-chairman of AGC Utah board

Salt Lake City — Big-D Construction’s COO Troy S. Thompson was elected as vice-chairman of the board for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Utah, the organization announced at its January, 2021 Annual Convention.

Big-D has been a member of AGC of Utah since the early 1990’s and Thompson has been active with the organization for more than 10 years. Prior to his position as vice-chair, Thompson served as chair of the Builders Board and held a two-year term on the organization’s Board of Directors.

As vice-chairman of the Board, some of Thompson’s duties will include serving on the AGC’s Executive Committee, representing AGC of Utah in regional and national meetings and events, and assisting in the development of the AGC’s annual operating budget and annual business plan.

“I am honored to be elected to this position and look forward to supporting (board chairman) Scott Okelberry in his efforts,” says Thompson. “The experience and knowledge I gain in this role will help prepare me for my term as the organization’s board chair next year, and it is my goal to help the AGC grow its membership. As we get people engaged and involved, we will see that everyone working together can make the biggest difference in this industry.”

Thompson began his career in the construction industry in Utah more than 40 years ago. In his current role as COO at Big-D, Thompson oversees day-to-day business operations, including helping employees advance their careers, create “work-life balance” through implementation of new construction technologies and be an integral part of the company’s growth. Additionally, he manages the self-performed work group, as well as the Big-D offices in Minneapolis, Phoenix and Lindon, UT.

Thompson feels it’s particularly important to mentor young people as they grow their careers. “My work at Big-D and my involvement with the AGC of Utah has afforded me the opportunity to work with the industry to educate kids on what a job would look like in this industry and get them on the right path for a successful career before they graduate high school,” he says.

“AGC, the Association of Choice, is thrilled to have Troy elected to serve as the 2021 Vice Chairman of the Board,” says Rich Thorn, president and CEO of AGC of Utah.  “As Vice Chairman, Troy also carries the title of Chairman-Elect, which means he will chair the AGC of Utah in 2022, which we will celebrate as the organization’s 100-year anniversary of service to the construction industry.”
