Downtown towers ‘go gold’ to support final IOC visit

Salt Lake City—In anticipation of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) visit, the business community is ready to extend a warm welcome. Scheduled for April 9-13, 2024, businesses will illuminate their premises in the hue of Olympic gold to showcase support for hosting another Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and welcome the IOC delegates while in Utah.

“The business community is wholeheartedly in support of hosting the 2034 Winter Games and this is a great way to demonstrate that resolve,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance. “With Utah’s world-class venues, vibrant economy and renowned hospitality, we are confident in our ability to provide a memorable and seamless experience for athletes, spectators and stakeholders from around the globe.”

Among the businesses that have pledged support by participating are Liberty Sky, The Gateway, 95 State, 222 Building, City Creek Center, Delta Center, Salt Lake City and County Building, The Grand America Hotel, Capitol Theatre, Wells Fargo Center and The Walker Center, among others. As a community event, everyone is welcome to illuminate their homes and businesses in gold.

“What great enthusiasm from our Salt Lake City business community,” said Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games President and CEO Fraser Bullock. “We want everyone in our entire state to feel the energy of bringing the Winter Games back to Utah.”

The purpose of the IOC’s visit to Utah is multifaceted, encompassing discussions on infrastructure, logistics and the overall readiness of the state to host the Winter Games. By enveloping the cityscape in golden, businesses aim to convey their enthusiasm and readiness to collaborate with the IOC in making the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games a resounding success.
