Ogden hosts the 13th Annual Intermountain Icebreaker Rodeo

Ogden, UT—Visit Ogden is thrilled to announce the 13th Annual Intermountain Icebreaker Rodeo, scheduled to take place from March 6 to March 9, 2024, at the Golden Spike Event Center. This unique rodeo marks a significant highlight in Ogden’s winter season, drawing competitors and spectators from across the region to celebrate the spirit of rodeo amidst the backdrop of Utah’s stunning winter landscapes.

The Intermountain Icebreaker Rodeo has grown exponentially since its inception, becoming a pivotal event that showcases the best in rodeo talent, including barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding, among other categories. This year’s competition is expected to attract hundreds of participants, all competing for top honors and the spirit of the west.

Millie Stewart, Director of Sales for Visit Ogden, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The 13th Annual High School Invitational Rodeo is a signature event in our community. It is a great opportunity for high school students to showcase their talents and provides a significant lift to our area. This year’s event is anticipated to bring in 650 participants and over 1,000 in daily attendance. It provides an estimated economic impact of $900,000 to Weber County.”

The Icebreaker Rodeo is more than a sporting event; it’s a community gathering that offers something for everyone, from thrilling rodeo action to food, fun, and festivities suitable for all ages. Visit Ogden invites everyone to come and experience the excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments that only rodeo can offer.

“This youth rodeo has a huge economic impact, and we hope our local businesses (hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc.) feel the impact of it,” said Ashton Wilson, Manager of Events for Weber County. “This event was created in 2012 when Weber County and Golden Spike Event Center staff partnered with Broken Heart Rodeo to create a kick-off rodeo for the beginning of the rodeo season – The Intermountain Icebreaker. The timing and region is where the events name came from and has drawn contestants from all over the United States, as well as Canada. A few years ago, we allowed 5th and under kids, as well as Jr. High contestants to enter – no longer restricting it to high school students. During contestant check in, we have college coaches available to visit with the contestants and discuss recruitment options from different states.”

About Golden Spike Event Center: The Golden Spike Event Center, host of the Intermountain Icebreaker Rodeo, is one of Ogden’s premier venues for sporting events, concerts, and community gatherings. With state-of-the-art facilities and a location that boasts beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, the Golden Spike Event Center is a cornerstone of entertainment and activity in Ogden.
