Utah Food Bank opens new 77,000-square-foot facility in Springville

Salt Lake City—Utah Food Bank is opening a new 77,032-square-foot facility in Springville to more efficiently respond to the increased need for food assistance in central Utah and Utah County. The ratio of food pantries to people in need has not kept pace with explosive population growth in the region, which has posed considerable challenges to Utah Food Bank’s work of Fighting Hunger Statewide for many years.

Utah Food Bank acquired the 14.17-acre parcel in 2021 that now houses Utah Food Bank Timpanogos Distribution Center, strategically located to help Utah Food Bank better serve the 71,670 central Utah residents, and 1 in 8 central Utah children, who face hunger. The new facility will offer 50,364 square feet of warehouse and commercial kitchen space, and 26,668 square feet of office and conference room space. Its location in Springville provides easy access to major truck routes and the facility will offer volunteer opportunities, public donation drop-offs, and provide local jobs. It will also enable Utah Food Bank to offer direct service programs previously unavailable in central Utah, while facilitating the expansion of current programs in the area.

“Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we have been able to complete this project debt-free” according to Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank President & CEO. “Most people are unaware that there is such a high incidence of food insecurity in central Utah, and specifically Utah County, coupled with the fact that there simply are not enough food resources to support central Utah’s population. We aim to change that with this facility and look forward to serving the needs of central Utah families for generations to come.”

This facility is the first of several that Utah Food Bank will open in early 2024, including a warehouse with attached pantry in Blanding, two pantries on the Navajo Nation, and a pantry in Hurricane. These openings will cap off Utah Food Bank’s multi-pronged expansion project that began with the expansion of their Salt Lake and St. George facilities in 2023.
