Tyson Foods donates a combined 40,000 pounds of protein to local community organizations

Eagle Mountain — Tyson Foods donated a combined total of 40,000 lbs. of protein to various local food pantries and organizations in the community on Friday, August 20. The donation included 5,000 lbs. of protein each to Tabitha’s Way local food pantry locations in American Fork and Spanish Fork. Tabitha’s Way helped to distribute 2,000 lbs. of protein to Community Action Food Bank in Provo and 11,000 lbs. to the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork. The bulk of the frozen products, packed into boxes, went to families and community members in need. A portion of the protein was also presented as a thank you to Tyson team members at the conclusion of the Eagle Mountain plant’s first week of operations, with each team member receiving a box of product.

“We are very excited to receive this amazing donation from Tyson Foods. This food grant will provide protein for up to 10,000 meals that will be given to food-insecure families and children in Utah County,” says Mike Carter, co-founder of Tabitha’s Way Local Food Pantry. “Tyson Foods has a long history of impacting the communities where their plants are located. Utah County is already being greatly blessed by Tyson Foods new facilities in Eagle Mountain.”

It is estimated that 100,000 individuals in Utah County are facing food insecurity, with 1 in 5 children hungry and lacking proper nutrition. The largest population Tabitha’s Way serves are children, averaging about 50 percent. Hunger delays development, impacting children’s cognitive, social and emotional levels. Tyson is committed to relieving hunger in the U.S. and being a part of the solution to fighting hunger in our Eagle Mountain community and beyond.

“We’re proud to be able to support our local community and be part of the solution to assisting those in the area in experiencing hunger. No individual should have to worry about where their next meal will come from,” says Tom Sharp, plant manager, Eagle Mountain, Tyson Foods. “The protein donation will provide critical resources to those in need in our community, and we’re happy to support our own Team Members as well.”

The Tyson plant has hired 300 team members to begin operations in the new Eagle Mountain facility and plans to hire an additional 300 by the end of the year. Once fully operational, the facility plans to employ 1,200 team members. Positions currently available include production, maintenance, quality assurance, and safety captains. Current pay for production workers ranges from $17.00 to $19.00 an hour, while maintenance workers can make up to $28.00. The company also offers benefits that include medical, dental, vision, prescription, 401K, and Tyson stock purchase.

With the Eagle Mountain plant’s recent opening, Tyson is looking forward to giving back to the community and helping those affected by food insecurity. Learn more about the company’s community support initiatives and hunger relief efforts here.
