Suazo Business Center Launches Women Entrepreneur Program

Salt Lake CityLatina business owners are one of the fastest-growing segments of Utah’s economy. These businesses are also at a disadvantage in critical business indicators.  As a response, Suazo Business Center, Utah’s economic development nonprofit focusing in strengthening and empowering entrepreneurship among Latinos and other underserved communities in the state, kicks off the ELLA program to address these gaps. ELLA stands for Entrepreneur Latina Leader Advancing and it also means “her” in Spanish.

In a state where the wage gap for women is second to the lowest in the nation, according to findings released earlier this month by the National Partnership for Women and Families, Utah Latinas are the lowest compensated demographic.

“Entrepreneurship is a vehicle that can effectively curb the wage gap for women and underserved communities in our state. We see this on a daily basis at our Center. The ELLA Program is designed to provide Latinas and other underserved entrepreneurs the resources necessary to either start or grow their businesses, increasing their earning potential and wealth. As these amazing women entrepreneurs succeed, it becomes an all-around win for Utah”, said Silvia Castro, Suazo Business Center’s Executive Director.

People model what they can see and the Suazo Business Center’s ELLA Program provides the women participating with the opportunity to interact with successful businesswomen. It is a highly personalized experience tailored for Latina entrepreneurs to cultivate skills not previously taught in a single program.

The inaugural session begins on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Center’s headquarters located at 960 West 1700 South in Salt Lake City.
