Suazo Business Center Hosts 2019 Graduation With Largest Class Ever
Salt Lake City—Suazo Business Center, the Salt Lake City nonprofit organization devoted to business and economic development for the region’s Hispanic, Latino, and other minority communities, is hosting their 2019 Graduation on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 6:00 pm at Salt Lake Community College’s Jordan campus.
The event is in honor of Suazo Business Center’s most recent program graduates. The Suazo Business Center offers two different business education programs; their Start-Up Program and Growth Program. This is Suazo’s largest graduating class with 26 students completing the Start-Up Program and 17 students completing the Growth Program. The Suazo Center is excited to welcome these students as the newest members of the local business community.
The graduates have taken great steps and have dedicated themselves to improving not only their own professional well-being, but their families’ economic situations as well, and they will be available to tell their stories to the press and the community, both before and after the ceremony.
10 of our graduates and attending alumni have been granted new suits from UWM Men’s Shop, in Salt Lake City. Suited for Good is a philanthropic program of the Utah Woolen Mills Foundation, where UWM Men’s Shop custom tailors suits for men and, in this case, women, who may not have an opportunity to purchase a suit for themselves, but who are very deserving of dressing the best for success.
At the beginning of the event, Mr. Edward Bennett, Operations Manager of the Suazo Business Center, will welcome the attendees and introduce members of the West High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), who will be presenting the colors and leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
The event will feature remarks from Kim Hinkle, a representative of State Farm, the Graduation co-sponsor; a current graduate speaker, Ms. Araceli Villegas, owner of Novedades Lucy in Orem, UT; an alumni speaker, Mr. Uriel Quintero, owner of Painter1, in Salt Lake City; Chairman of the Suazo Business Center Board, Mr. Anthony Mirabile, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Asset Management in Salt Lake City who will speak and read a prepared statement from Governor Gary R. Herbert; and Ms. Silvia Castro, Executive Director or the Suazo Business Center. Also present will be Mr. Steven Akerlow representing Morgan Stanley Bank, and Mr. Keith Atkinson and Mr. Juan Becerra representing community relations for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Keynote address will be given by Senator Luz Escamilla, State Senate Minority Whip, and Senator for Utah’s First District in Salt Lake City. The Suazo Business Center is located within Senator Escamilla’s district.
“Senator Escamilla has been instrumental in helping the Suazo Business Center grow and develop its programming since she has represented our district in the State Senate. We are proud to call her a friend of the Center and are honored she has agreed to speak to our graduates at this event celebrating their magnificent achievements.” – Silvia Castro, Suazo Business Center Executive Director
“People who thrive in business, build their skills and a strong network,” says State Farm Agent Kim Hinkle. “The insight and training Suazo Business Center provides business owners is invaluable in helping then be successful.”
“Suited for Good is a program developed by UWM Men’s Shop in Salt Lake City. Our mission is to outfit folks in a new suit to help them find the job that will propel them further in life. Wearing a suit that fits allows any individual to be confident, credible, and successful, knowing that they are dressed as well anybody and can accomplish anything!” BJ Stringham, President UWM Men’s Shop
