Smith’s Makes $60,000 Donation to Utah Food Bank
Salt Lake City— Smith’s Food & Drug, a division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), today announced a $60,000 food donation to Utah Food Bank to help feed families in need this holiday season and are asking customers to join their efforts.
In Utah, 1 in 8 people struggle with hunger. To help close the hunger gap Smith’s grocery stores are offering customers a convenient way to reach out and help others during the holiday season. From now until February 1st of 2020, customers may ‘Round Up’ their grocery total to the nearest dollar at checkout. 100% of the donated change will then be used to create more meals for families. In addition, the grocery stores will host a food drive providing non-perishable items to the Utah Food Bank.
“Utah Food Bank is so incredibly grateful to call Smith’s Food & Drug a partner in fighting hunger statewide,” said Ginette Bott, CEO of Utah Food Bank. “Their ongoing support through gifts of food, time and money are having a significant impact on the lives of the 374,000 Utahns, and 1 in 7 Utah children, who face hunger.”
To kick off the Round-up campaign and help families enjoy holiday meals together, Smith’s donated 480 turkey breasts, 1,400 pies and 17,000 loaves of bread to Utah Food Bank.
“Today’s donation will bring fresh food to holiday celebrations for thousands of families in the communities we serve,” said Aubriana Martindale, Smith’s corporate affairs manager. “We believe everyone deserves fresh food, not just around the holidays but every day and will continue our work to help end hunger.”
The donation aligns with their Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative, which is their bold plan to end hunger in our communities and eliminate waste across their company by 2025.
