Mr. Shabu Opens at The Gateway November 30
Salt Lake City— The Gateway, Utah’s premier community gathering, dining, and entertainment destination is pleased to announce that “Mr. Shabu” will be joining their growing restaurant offerings on November 30, 2019. Serving shabu-shabu, an Asian hot pot dish that’s quickly gaining popularity in the United States and Europe, it’s a popular new addition of more than 5,000 square feet of dining to the Gateway’s growing list of specialty restaurants on the south end of the property. They will open for dinner only for the first week of operation, then will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5-10 p.m. for dinner.
This all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu restaurant is located in the heart of the all-new restaurant row on the south end of The Gateway. Mr. Shabu offers individual Asian hot pot dishes with thinly sliced meat and vegetables boiled in a selection of specialty broths served with a delicious range of dipping sauces. Mr. Shabu’s owner brings with him 18 years of experience in the meat supply business. With his extensive knowledge of meats, he provides hand-selected premium meats for the best shabu-shabu experience.
Everything is served in unlimited quantities, so diners have a large selection of the freshest ingredients to choose from for a highly customized, personal dining experience. Everyone gets their own pot to create their perfect meal based on their preferences — making it easier for those who are vegetarian, don’t care for certain vegetables or meats or cannot tolerate spicy foods.
Diners are tempted by a premium selection of meats (Wagyu beef, pork, and lamb) and seafood (shrimp, octopus, clams and more) and a wide assortment of fresh vegetables. Soup broth bases include kombu, tonkotsu, sukiyaki, miso, vegetarian and Chinese hot pot broth. Choices of vermicelli, udon, ramen, konjac, glass noodles, and more complete the experience. A wide range of delicious appetizers is included in the all-you-can-eat menu including edamame, gyoza, truffle fries, cream cheese wontons, karaage chicken and cheese tonkatsu.
The modern iteration of shabu-shabu (meaning “swish swish” in Japanese) was invented by chef Chuichi Miyake in Osaka, Japan in 1952. It became popular in China during the 1980s. Today, shabu-shabu dishes are enjoyed in many Asian cultures and menus around the world.
