Golden Spike Celebration at The Gateway

Salt Lake CityTo commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike that united a nation, The Gateway, Utah’s premier community gathering, dining and entertainment destination, and home to the former Union Pacific Depot will host a celebration at the Olympic Legacy Plaza on May 10, 2019 from 5 until 10 p.m.

The evening is open to the public, free and will be filled with family-friendly activities including stage performances by Clayton Productions and the Deseret Experimental Opera, a Lego train display, ride-a-long train, food trucks, fireworks and more. The festivities will take place adjacent to The Gateway’s historic Grand Hall and former Union Pacific Building, an important historic railway landmark in downtown Salt Lake.

Clayton Productions, under the direction of D. Kim Clayton is the leading Performing Arts Studio in the state of Utah. Students ranging from grades preschool to college will sing and dance to upbeat medleys from Disney to Broadway to Country. The energy and expertise of these students have thrilled audiences throughout the world. Their tours this year are in New York City, Seattle and San Francisco, so this is a great chance to catch them locally.

“We have so much history here that we’re celebrating,” said Jacklyn Briggs, marketing director for The Gateway. “This big celebration of Utah’s role in uniting the country will end with a big fireworks display. And Clayton Productions promises an amazing show people won’t want to miss.”
