Major Art Installation Begins at The Gateway
Salt Lake City—The Gateway, Utah’s premier community gathering, entertainment, and destination for the arts, is welcoming a new large-scale mural by renown local artist Havoc Hendricks in June. His custom works of art are highly sought after by boutique hotels, ski resorts, the surf industry and active outdoor brands and include paintings and mural of mountains, moons, geodes and other beauty found in nature. The new art installation joins more than 30 murals, digital, interactive and pop-up arts and culture experiences at The Gateway and this will be Havoc’s first Salt Lake installation. The new mural is located on the lower north end of the property.
Havoc spent his life studying the never-ending line patterns that nature displays through water, mountain strata, geodes, rock veins, cloud patterns, wood grain and other natural elements. He transcribes these patterns through a minimalist perspective; the end result is something he calls Detailed Minimalism. His work is intentionally meant to not scream for attention. Rather, it confidently exists to be noticed when the viewer is ready to be drawn in by the intricate patterns displayed throughout.
Growing up in rural Idaho, he spent most of his childhood observing the tiny details of his quiet environment. His many memories of obsessing over his grandfather’s 100+ geode collection, watching the water run through the nearby creek and being just as interested in the wood grain on his living room furniture as he was in the action-figures. Later in life he became a mountaineer, visiting fascinating and remote locations where he studied the earth’s diverse strata. His hobby of observing nature’s patterns was nurtured for decades before finding its destined outlet through the end of his paintbrush. www.HavocHendricks.com
“For this specific project at the Gateway, I’m focusing on a couple things. I want the color scheme to add to the attractive sophistication that’s emerging throughout the property. I want the 3D illusion of my work to make the space look bigger and grander than it already is,” says artist Havoc Hendricks. “Most importantly, I want to extend and glamorize the amazing mountain region that we’re lucky enough to live in.”
“Integrating art into The Gateway’s revitalization is extremely important to us. The Gateway serves as an open-air art gallery that is accessible to everyone” says Jacklyn Briggs, marketing director for The Gateway.” We’re thrilled to be working with a local artist to create this new installation that joins the more than 30 commissioned pieces by renown national and local street artists.”
