Accomplishments: Sheila Yorkin worked with Salt Lake City Corporation for 12 years as a corporate communicator, policy analyst, Gallivan Center director and public services communicator. She then joined the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, where she managed public relations and marketing. She joined Westminster College in 2013 and soon helped the college launch a “branding initiative that has helped define and refine the Westminster College brand. This included grassroots internal assessment as well as public-perception analysis, market research and trends, and creating a strategic alliance with an outside advertising agency.”
Advice for women in the workforce: “See every challenge as an opportunity to push yourself beyond what you think you can accomplish. Don’t be afraid to make different choices at different times in your life. Speak up for yourself and other women.”
Community involvement: Over the years Yorkin has been involved with numerous nonprofit boards. “As of this moment, I would say the Women’s Giving Circle has been especially meaningful because I can do this with my daughter. The Women’s Giving Circle promotes women’s self-determination through networking, awareness and philanthropy. Plus, it creates opportunities for women to share ideas and foster participation of a new generation of women who in turn give, volunteer and advocate for women in the state of Utah.”
