Accomplishments: In her role as director of the University of Utah’s Center for Public Policy & Administration, Jennifer Robinson was instrumental in merging that center into the newly formed Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. The institute now serves as a center for independent economic, demographic and public policy thought leadership. Additionally, Robinson recently launched the LeadNOW program to develop the leadership competencies of public sector and non-profit professionals.
Passion for public service: “My father worked for the SL County Sheriff’s Office for 30 years … I have memories as a young child being in the traffic station with my dad along with other deputies talking about work, or going to court and sitting in the judge’s chambers while my dad testified. It was exciting and fascinating to see government work—these early experiences taught me to appreciate the role of government, the importance of law, and motivated me to have a career in public service.”
Community involvement: For over a decade, Robinson has served on the committee that organizes the University of Utah’s annual Veteran’s Day event, which includes a ceremony honoring 11 veterans. “I’ve met dozens of men and women who’ve worn our nation’s uniform, who display resolute character, and I am inspired by their courage and dedication to our nation,” she says.
