Associated Retail Stores was recently given three of 20 awards presented at the 2010 National Grocers Association (N.G.A) Award Reception. The N.G.A. is the national trade association that represents privately owned retail and wholesale grocers. Associated Retail Stores was the only Utah company recognized at the awards.
In 1999, Associated Food Stores purchased the Macey’s and Lin’s grocery organizations, and formed Associated Retail Stores. Today, there are 22 Associated Retail Stores corporate stores operating under four different banners and formats: Macey’s, Dan’s, Lin’s and Dick’s Markets.
The N.G.A. awards recognize the best advertising and merchandising efforts in the grocery industry. The contest brings attention to the creativity and innovation that have defined promotional activities in the local market.
The Best Pre-Printed Insert Ad was awarded to Macey’s for its “Macey’s Come and ‘C’” ad. The ad promoted the stores’ third annual intermountain Dutch oven cook-off.
Macey’s and Dick’s received the award for Best Fresh Foods Merchandising for “Macey’s World Record Bananas” and “Associated Retail Stores Corn Craze.” The two displays included 66,000 pounds of fresh bananas, and corn that was stacked almost to the ceiling.
These displays also garnered Macey’s and Dick’s a nomination for the Best of Show award.
“Within the grocery industry, the N.G.A. is one of our most respected and recognized organizations. To be recognized at this annual event is a great honor for our company,” said Steve Reich, vice president of marketing for Associated Retail Stores.
