 University of Phoenix named PAUL BENNER associate director of academic affairs. In this position, he will ensure academic quality and provide management for the academic processes at the Utah campus. Benner, who specializes in curriculum development and innovative educational techniques, earned a MBA from University of Phoenix in 1996 and began teaching marketing and management courses for the university in 1999. In 2001 he became the campus college chair for undergraduate business and management. 

Les Olson Company board of directors and shareholders selected JIM OLSON as the chairman of the board and sole CEO of Les Olson Company. LARRY OLSON will continue serving as president of Les Olson Company and will remain on the board of directors. Larry and Jim Olson are both sons of LES OLSON, who founded the business in 1956. 

 

BRYANT J. MCCONKIE was named a shareholder of Strong & Hanni. McConkie specializes in family disputes and other family law issues. He is serving as the immediate past chair for the Dispute Resolution Section of the Utah State Bar and is an adjunct professor with the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

 

Control4 appointed RICHARD WALKER president, energy systems. Walker is responsible for the growth and management of the company’s new operating division dedicated to bringing affordable energy management solutions to consumers, utilities, partners and businesses. Walker joins the company from Hewlett-Packard, where he led the company’s $6 billion consumer desktop business unit.   

 

Jones Waldo added attorneys JOHN C. ROOKER, RICHARD G. SORENSON, JASON M. YANCEY and TIFFANY BROWN, to its Salt Lake City office. The Park City office added attorneys ERIC P. LEE and ROBERT C. DILLON, and the St. George office added attorney STEPHANIE CHARTER.

TechniScan, Inc. filled three new director-level positions and hired a senior software engineer. TechniScan hired DR. JOHN C. KLOCK, MD, as the company’s chief medical director; ANDY CIER as director of marketing and communications; JESSICA SMITH, MS, as senior regulatory and market development manager; and LOUIS D. LANGHOLTZ as senior software engineer. 

 

STEPHEN R. RICHARDS, CEO and owner of Richards Sheet Metal Works Inc. of Ogden, announced changes to the company’s executive board. The newly appointed members are: STERLING N. JENSEN, president and chief operating officer; KEVIN JONES, vice president of business development; and DEE ROSKELLEY, vice president of procurement, MFG technology and marketing.

 

THOMAS WRIGHT was named president and principal broker at Summit Sotheby’s International Realty overseeing the company’s Utah offices. BRUCE SHANON, founder of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty, was named managing broker of the company’s Heber office and will continue to drive the company’s strategy and growth with Wright. 

 

Recently elected for a third term to the four-member Alta Town Council, PAUL T. MOXLEY extends his current seven-year seat until 2014. Honored as the 2009-10 Utah Bar Association’s Attorney of the Year, Moxley brings legal expertise to the council and his ongoing interest in cooperating with entities such as the U. S. Forest Service, the Utah Department of Transportation and Salt Lake Valley municipalities. Moxley was also appointed to membership on the 15-member American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. 

Alliant Techsystems (ATK) board of directors appointed MARK DEYOUNG as the company’s new president and CEO. DeYoung previously served as president of ATK’s Armament Systems group, the company’s largest business entity. In this capacity, he led the group’s expansion from approximately $600 million of revenue in fiscal year 2003 to a projected $2.1 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2010.  

 

JOHN CAMERON of Cameron Construction received the Legacy Award from Mountain States Construction magazine at the Best of 2009 awards function. Cameron has been involved in the construction industry as one of the founding members of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Utah (ABC).  He is currently serving as the chairman of the Salt Lake Community College Construction Trades Advisory Council, a position he has held for 24 years. 

JEREMY BOBERG, director of admissions and marketing at The Ark of Little Cottonwood since 2001, has been appointed president of the Association of Utah Substance Abuse Professionals (AUSAP). As president, he will be responsible for continuing education, representing the substance abuse professionals on legislative issues, and directing the day-to-day administrative operations of AUSAP.

 

BRUCE H. SCHECHINGER, president of BHS Marketing LLC, was named the 2009 Distributor of the Year by the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD). The award, given annually for service to the chemical distribution industry and fellow NACD members, was presented to Schechinger in honor of more than 15 years of volunteer service to NACD as well as his instrumental role in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the NACD early last summer. 

 

Holme Roberts & Owen LLP elected JODY WILLIAMS to the firm’s executive committee. Williams was elected to the committee to represent the four HRO offices located outside of Colorado, which include Salt Lake City, the firm’s second largest office, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Prior to her appointment to the executive Committee, she served as managing partner. Williams is also a member of the natural resources and real estate practice groups where she primarily practices water rights, natural resources, energy and real property law.
